Track description

The Netherlands is at a crossroads. Digitalization offers opportunities for economic growth, innovation, and societal value, but also introduces increasing geopolitical dependencies, growing energy and material demands, and fragmentation across research initiatives.

In this session, Digital Holland and TNO discuss with leading partners and scholars a new framework for sustainable and sovereign digitalization across different time horizons. Perspectives are shared on three key domains: sustainable software engineering as an approach that can be applied today, modular and energy-efficient data center concepts as developments for the near to mid-term, and neuromorphic computing as a longer-term research direction.

The session concludes with a panel discussion reflecting on the opportunities these research trajectories offer for advancing sustainable and sovereign digitalization in the Netherlands and Europe, and for shaping a coherent long-term digital landscape.
